Amazon FBA costs

There are various fees for the Fulfillment by Amazon service, such as storage, shipping and sales fees. You should include these in the price calculation.

FBA sales fees (referral fees)

This is the fee you pay for selling a product on Amazon. It depends on the category of the product and is usually between 8% and 15% of the selling price. However, there are categories where it can be as high as 45% (e.g. accessories for Amazon devices).

FBA shipping fees (fulfillment fees)

These fees are incurred for the storage, packaging and shipping of your items. The amount of the shipping fees depends on the size and weight of the product. Examples:

  • Standard size, light product: 2.50 - 3.50 EUR
  • Oversize or heavy product: Higher fees, e.g. 7.00 - 10.00 EUR or more per unit.

FBA storage fees (Storage Fees)

These are the fees for storing your products in Amazon's warehouses. They are charged monthly and depend on size and storage duration:

  • Storage fees for standard size: around 15 - 26 EUR per cubic meter/month, depending on the season (higher in peak season October-December).
  • Storage fees for oversize: from about 11 EUR per cubic meter/month.

If your items are stored for longer than 365 days, additional long-term storage fees will apply.

FBA packaging fees

Packaging fees are included in the FBA shipping fees and cover the cost of packaging materials (such as boxes, fillers and labels) that Amazon uses to pack the products.

Return processing fees (Return Processing Fees)

For certain categories, e.g. clothing or shoes, Amazon charges fees for processing returns. These are usually around 50% of the FBA shipping fees.

Fees for advertising campaigns (promotional fees)

If you offer special promotions via Amazon (e.g. lightning deals or coupons), additional fees may apply.

Optional services

  • Labeling Fees: If you have Amazon label the products, you will be charged approx. 0.15 - 0.20 EUR per item.
  • Prepping Fees: Amazon also charges fees for additional preparation services such as packing or shrink-wrapping.

FBA is particularly suitable for Amazon sellers who want to simplify their logistics and benefit from Amazon's reach. However, it requires a precise cost-benefit analysis in each individual case as the Amazon FBA fees are not insignificant. You also lose some control over your logistics processes.
