Optimizing shipping processes: Conveyor technology at Cella Meppen

Meppen, April 23, 2026. Those looking to optimize shipping processes must focus on more than just speed. What really matters are stable workflows, efficient management of material flow, and working conditions that noticeably reduce the daily workload on employees. That is precisely why Cella invested in modern conveyor technology at its Meppen facility about six months ago.

In day-to-day operations, it is now clear that this decision has improved our shipping logistics in several areas. Workflows are more structured, processes are more reliable, and the physical strain of daily warehouse work is noticeably reduced. The result is a shipping process that delivers clear benefits for both our customers and our employees.

Automated material flow from the packing table to loading

The conveyor system plays a central role in the shipping process. Packed shipments are loaded directly at the packing stations and automatically transported to the respective swap bodies.

What previously involved additional manual steps now runs much more smoothly in the background. This reduces interfaces, provides greater clarity in the material flow, and makes the processes more stable overall. At the same time, packages are reliably routed to the correct destinations, ensuring a clear separation by carrier at all times.

Optimize shipping processes by improving daily operations

Day-to-day operations clearly demonstrate just how much modern conveyor technology can contribute to optimizing shipping processes. The system at the Cella Meppen site processes up to 1,250 packages per hour. Currently, 30 packing stations are connected, and the solution is designed to be expanded as needed.

In conjunction with seven destination stations for different carriers, this creates a seamless and clearly structured process. Even with fluctuating shipping volumes, the material flow remains stable. This increases process reliability and creates a robust foundation for further growth.

Better working conditions for warehouse staff

In addition to efficiency and process quality, one other aspect was particularly important to us: reducing the workload on our employees. This is precisely where material handling systems have a particularly positive impact on day-to-day warehouse operations.

Walking distances have been significantly reduced, and many transport tasks no longer need to be performed manually. This reduces physical strain and makes workplace processes more streamlined. For us, modern logistics therefore means not only faster processes, but also better working conditions for the people who work with them every day.

Better quality and reliability in shipping

When shipping processes are managed effectively, it benefits not only internal teams but also customers. Automated workflows reduce sources of error and ensure that shipments are assigned to the appropriate carriers with significantly greater reliability.

This ensures more consistent processes, better predictability, and overall greater reliability in shipping. This advantage is particularly noticeable when dealing with larger volumes. For our customers, this means stable logistics processes they can rely on even as volumes grow.
